The war is approaching. Bombs threaten the inhabitants of German cities. Even important pieces of art like Rafael’s Sistine Madonna, the works of Caspar David Friedrich and one of the last three Maya codices are threatened to be lost through war.
The exhibition at Weesenstein Castle shows how people tried to save the cultural heritage. It tells the stories of the secret art transports to the supposedly save castle. Put into boxes, it gives a glimpse into the way the objects were stored and catalogued, describes the everyday routine during war in the castle, and highlights the small but important stories of its inhabitants. A mixture of analog and digital media lets the visitor experience the feeling of living in that time.
