The exhibition is divided into two parts, clearly separated by colour and space. The first, classically designed part shows the long history of official giving. The second part is dedicated to modern diplomacy. A “digital” employee of the Saxon State Chancellery’s protocol department reveals the complex rules of official gifts, while a comprehensive exhibition shows gifts to the State of Saxony since 1990. Presented in simple aluminium shelves, it symbolises the impersonal handling of these protocolar state gifts. Often it is not the object that is significant, but its origin and the associated diplomatic relations. With the help of a media station and mobile object cards, the visitor may embark on a journey through these intricacies of diplomacy.
